
  
Along Lewis and Clark's Idaho Northwest Passage where the Lochsa & Selway Rivers converge to form the wild & scenic Middle Fork of the Clearwater River travelers will find one of Idaho's newest vacation retreats.
Idaho's famous Highway 12 parallels a trail system so old and used that its depth revealed its antiquity. The Nii Mii Pu, or Nez Perce called the route the “Road to Buffalo Country.” Over this very route, a young Nez Perce woman named Sacajawea lead the Lewis & Clark Corp of Discovery through the rugged Bitterroot wilderness to the very spot we know today as Lolo Pass. Rich in history, the established campgrounds and point so interest are actual sites used by the Corp of Discovery on their trek through to Montana. The creeks and their tributaries are names after events or people significant to the Corp.
This scenic, meandering motorway is a renowned motor bike route. With sweeping turns and gentle winding topography, this route requires minimal gear changes. This is a exciting ride for both the novas and experienced rider.
The Clearwater River provides excellent swimming & boating for the beginner & expert. It is a great place to float in small rafts & inner tubs. It offers sand beaches for added enjoyment. The Clearwater River is know for it's world renowned steel head & trout fishing.
Six miles east of Wilderness Rim is Three Rivers Resort. So named because at this vary point the Lochsa & Selway rivers join to form the North Fork of the Clearwater River. If you thrill to remote splendor,take a 47 mile trip between the Selway-Fenn Ranger Station to the rugged Selway Falls. This area provides some of the most scenic day or over night hikes in Idaho.
If White Water Rafting is your passion, then the Lochsa River with it's 40 rapids that rate four or
above on the European rating system of 1 to 6 is waiting for you. White water season extends from May to July.
Bring you field binoculars or a spotting scope to help get an up close view at some of Idaho's most watchable wildlife! Wildlife watching is best done right at dawn or at dusk. The Bald Eagle, can been seen fishing for steel head or rainbow trout along the crystal clear waters of the Lochsa and Clearwater Rivers. Osprey, or Fish Hawks, diving underwater and emerging with a fish in their claws. During the early spring the Canadian geese migrate to the banks of the Clearwater River. It is not unusual to see a pair nesting along the edge of the road or parading their young down to the rivers edge. Watch the Idaho State bird, the Mountain Blue Bird as is gathers materials to build its nest.
Whitetail deer can be spotted grazing in the meadow glades or along the banks of the river. Travelers can often spot Mountain Goats grazing on the steep rock outcropping of the valley walls.
